About Shipley Shops
A half-century tradition,The Shipley Shops has been a popular tradition among Main
Line shoppers since 1961. It has grown from a two-day event featuring 15 local and
out-of-town specialty stores to a four-day event with 40 vendors. Before the King of
Prussia, Springfield, and Plymouth Meeting Malls, the Shipley Shops event was an
innovative shopping concept with various vendors all under one roof.
An October 26, 1961 article in the Main Line Times said, “The last word in shopping
now-a-days is the under-cover center. Just stroll from store to store without ever
having to step outside and battle the elements. Possibly the new concept has inspired
an autumn benefit planned by the Shipley School Alumnae Association.” Today, the
vendors may be different but the concept is the same – a great shopping experience
under one roof, all for the benefit of a good cause. We hope you’ll join us.
